Charlotte Brooks is a headhunter in the City, and one of Inhere’s first guests since we launched. In this Q&A she shares why she comes for regular meditation sessions in our studio.
Could you tell us a little bit about your background?
I’m a senior headhunter working at a legal search firm in the City.
Describe a typical week for you?
I work full time; on average between 9am-7pm. I always used to eat lunch at my desk or go to the gym if I had the time.
How is your work/life balance?
During the week it’s mainly work!
Would you describe yourself as stressed?
Not currently but my job can be very stressful and I find it hard to leave those feelings in the office.
Did you regularly practice meditation before Inhere meditation studio? If so, how do the sessions at Inhere meditation studio differ from other methods of meditation which you’ve tried?
I started doing my own meditation at home in the mornings with the help of guided audio. The problem was that I didn’t always have enough time before work and so if I didn’t do it then, I wouldn’t really find the time (or a place!) to meditate at any other point in the day.
How did you find out about Inhere studio and what initially attracted you to it?
I read about the Light Centre in Moorgate and was about to sign up for a meditation course there when I saw that a studio had opened right by my office in Monument. So I bought the two weeks unlimited package and thought I would try it out.
Have you found fitting in trips to Inhere Studio around your schedule and working life easy?
It’s great because I work literally around the corner. That means if I have a free lunchtime I can pop over for half an hour and if I don’t finish too late I can go over after work. There are plenty of sessions to choose from. It’s really solved my problem as it means I have a quiet place to practice meditation in the day.
What practical benefits would you say the meditation sessions at Inhere Studio have given you in your day to day and working life?
It gives me an incredibly relaxing place that I can go to to escape work. It has really helped me manage my stress. Adiba and her girls are fab and really make you feel at home.
What are your thoughts on the teacher-free element of the classes here?
I actually really enjoy it because it means I can be alone. Sometimes I just want to escape from everybody!
Which classes do you use the most, do you have any favourites?
I mostly do the 30 minute sessions as they give me the right amount of time to really get into the meditation. I love Clear, Steady, Focus and Rest (for the end of the day) but to be honest I have really enjoyed all of them!
What 3 simple tips to be more mindful, grounded and connected daily have you picked up from the classes?
Trying not to hold on to negative thoughts or stresses.
I’ve learnt it’s important to realise that many things are out of my control and I have to let them go.
The lunchtime session always really enables me to reset and invigorates me for the afternoon.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering starting meditation sessions at Inhere Meditation Studio?
I would recommend buying the two week or month unlimited sessions as they are great value. If you’ve never done meditation before then you will need a few sessions to really get into it so having unlimited classes is perfect. If you’re unsure or are just thinking about meditation then just pop in and speak to the girls to see if it’s right for you.
